Overrated Countries

Heres a question; which countries receive more kudos than they deserve (from a historical context).

Example - Italy is revered but hasnt done anything since the Romans (apart from swap sides in wars) so is overrated. Ireland have a nice history but havent done anything but export people, thereby keeping their rating up, so is overrated.

On the other hand, Portugal gets no props, but has a very rich and interesting history. Similarly Holland.

Thoughts?

I think every country is overrated... I hope to prove myself wrong this New Years when I visit Australia for the first time.

It's all about the places that have nothing to lose... Peru, Belgium, Hong Kong, etc...

Australia is a bit of a contradiction. The cities are adequate, but the country ('bush') is amazing.

Good call on the 'nothing to lose' aspect, I also think there is a lot to be said for countries 'starting anew'...but cant think of any
